Spot what's wrong
Bad News
- The cpu cooler retention module of my workstation (aka straylight) broke yesterday without warning but made a loud CLANG in compensation when hitting my graphic card
- The board with which the retention module came was an abit KN9 Ultra which means that I can't even threaten to never buy abit again since they don't even really exist any more (btw. the cooler's weight was well within the spec iirc)
Good News
- The BIOS reacted to the suddenly rather hot cpu and caused the system to shut down orderly (which I kinda sped up once I grasped what just must've happend…). Good to know that things just work in an emergency
- A replacement retention module should arrive tomorrow
- The graphic card appears to be undamaged
- I've got a laptop which I'm using right now
⇒ never rely on any single piece of hardware not to break
UPDATE: got the new retention module and everything works again
